Mr. Lau Professor Lau is admitted in Hong Kong, England and Wales, Australia (ACT, Northern Territory, Tasmania and the High Court of Australia) and Singapore. He holds law degrees and diplomas from the City of London Polytechnic, The University of Hong Kong, University College London, Southern Methodist University, Peking University, University of Aberdeen and Harvard University. He has been practising law in HK for 19 years. His previous firms include Johnson, Stokes & Master; Gallant Y. T. Ho & Co.; Baker & McKenzie; and Linklaters (London Office). Mr. Lau joined So, Keung, Yip & Sin as a part-time Consultant in September 1995. He provides legal advice on emigration to the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Singapore; as well as immigration to Hong Kong. At the same time, he joined the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) as a full-time Assistant Professor of Law. Below are some of his recent achievements:

May 1997-invited to the Peking University as a Visiting Scholar.

July 1997-awarded a Putonghua Teacher’s Certificate (Distinction) by the Beijing Normal University (Beijing Shi Fan Da Xue)

Appeared in Who’s Who of the Law in Hong Kong 1998, 2000 and 2003.

July 1999 and 2001-invited to the Oxford University as a Visiting Scholar.

March 2002-President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching, HKBU.

August 2002- present Secretary, Harvard Club of Hong Kong.

April 2003-Nominated by the Hong Kong Baptist University as its most innovative teacher, to receive an award at the 14th ICCTL Conference in Florida, USA

April 2004-Junior Instructor, Hong Kong Taekwondo Association

January 2005-Highest Teaching Evaluation, College of Int’l Education, HKBU

July 2005-awarded Ph.D. degree in Law by the University of Aberdeen. Topic: A Comparative Study between the Listing Rules of the PRC and the UK.

July 2005-Associate Professor (HKBU) and Council Member (HK Inst of Directors)

August 2005- Wrote to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress in Beijing to suggest changes in Articles 91, 104 and 112 of the new Company Law concerning the term ‘more than’. The recommendation was adopted.

January 2006- Member, Inland Revenue Board of Review

April 2007- Black Belt Third Degree, World Taekwondo Federation, Korea

May 2007-Honorary Fellow, Asian Institute of Int’l Financial Law, HKU

Nov 2007-Invited by the President of the Peking Uni to speak at the Beijing Forum
